The cub section has continued to be active through 2007 and early 2008. Enjoying being part of the world wide and now Slough districts centenary celebrations. There have been a number of district led activities. The ACC cubs has worked hard this last year to bring about some changes at county level and encourage and support the districts. I am hoping to pass this on to the sections leaders throughout the year. I am trying to start up more regular pack visits after a bit of a break since having children. Since the AGM 2007, the cubs have participated in:

District Camp 07: The cubs from all the packs took part in the all district camp at Longridge and despite a wet weekend had a great time. They took part in many different activities some of which were new to them and enjoyed the campfire and setting their lights down to float down the Thames.

Sunrise Ceremony 07: The cubs took pride in organizing the sunrise ceremony for all in the district who weren’t fortunate enough to be at the jamboree for this special occasion. We had great weather and a good turn out including the mayor and MP for Slough as well as a number of familiar faces and families.

District Party 08: Cubs from all over the district took part in the party and had a great time, playing a variety of traditional party games, eating their lunches and dancing to the music too.

District quiz 08: This was won by 1st Britwell (for the 3rd year in a row) who went on to represent Slough at the county quiz and came 7th. They did very well and we will have to see who can take the crown next year.

District silly sports afternoon 08: Over 40 youngsters from across the district took part in the cub organized silly sports afternoon. The weather was very hot and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves taking part in welly throwing, egg and spoon, skipping, water relays, and mixing with other beavers, cubs and scouts from other groups.

A number of cubs in the district have been awarded with their Chief Scouts Silver award this year, well done to them and to their leaders for providing the programme to allow this to happen. There are plans to hold an annual county event and make a celebration of the silver awards at the same time each year that everyone can plan for.

Future events: We are looking forward to this years district camp at Bear’s rails with all sections in Slough. We will be holding a sixers and seconders camp at Dorney wood in September as well as holding a cooking competition, a badge day and a Christmas party for this year with many exciting challenges for 2009 in the pipeline. We hope to encourage more than ever district wide participation and are working hard to set dates well ahead of the events.

Thank you’s: There are many people without whom the cub section of Slough would not be as good and as active as it is. Thanks to all the leaders, assistants, helpers and parents who support both district and their own group events. Thanks to the district team and Leaders of other sections for their help as well.

A special thank you goes to Sarah who continues to work hard as a district cub scout leader as well as working hard as appointments secretary and training advisor and an assistant cub scout leader too – what dedication! Thanks again for your support.
