Resolution Explorer Scouts Dorneywood Weekend Camp

Last weekend saw the first camp for Resolution ESU, a weekend camp based around expedition skills and environmental awareness.

Starting the weekend with an incident hike from their Britwell base via Burnham Beeches and finally on to the Dorneywood campsite, on route they found a drunk man who had rescued a woman floundering in middle pond at Burnham Beeches, responding to the incident with previously taught first aid skills they assessed their patent and called for an ambulance whilst trying to cope with a drunk and disruptive onlooker.

On arrival at Dorney wood tents where pitched and a good night’s sleep was had by all followed by a Saturday morning of site work, assisting the wardens to clear fallen trees and clear up the site helps form a stronger relationship with the campsite and also leads to a felling of ownership. The afternoon was spent with assessing their previous night’s expedition, and learning new scouting skills with a twist. The explorers set about teaching the leaders how to use a knife, axe and saw. Bill taught some fire lighting in preparation for a hearty stew followed by a small campfire.

Saturday evening was completed with a trip to Andrew Collets 18th Birthday party, as he couldn’t make camp it seemed only fitting to take the camp to him.

Waking to a damp start Sunday, John led the explorers in building a rope bridge using pioneering skills to cross a ravine, it was certainly well built and much fun was had traversing the bomb hole on site. The afternoon was filled with group games which just proved how unfit some of the leaders really are.

The weekend finished off with a Sunday afternoon tea at 4pm consisting of a cream tea, scones, jam and cream before finally breaking camp and heading home at 5pm.
