Fundraising Update :-

2007 is the centenary year of the scout movement and scouting in Slough continues to provide local young people from 6 - 25 with a wide range of

opportunities to develop their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

This is a community service which is provided on a completely voluntary basis and the Scout movement is totally reliant on charitable donations for funding. The uniformed leaders within Scouting give their time freely in order to deliver the wide-ranging programme of activities that are enjoyed by all of the members. However, none of this can be achieved without funding, and the Slough District Scout Council recognises that there is a need for some coordinated fund-raising across the district in order to support a number of key areas, these being:

. Members in Slough District attending the 2007 World Jamboree

. The Discovery Explorer Scout Unit (a district level unit for 14-18 year olds)

. Slough District Scout Council

. Slough Scout Groups

An initial target objective has been set to raise £2000 over the next 12 months and the fund raising committee have identified a number of key events that we are intending to deliver in order to achieve this goal. As always these events can only be successful with external support. That support can take many forms from being involved in the organisation and execution of the event, providing donations, persuading employers to make a donation, attending the event, etc.

The events that we are planning for the coming year are:

. Bag Packing at a local superstore (date and location to be confirmed)

. Vehicle Screen Wash at a local service station (planned for early spring, location to be confirmed)

. Summer Ball (to be held late June/ early July 2007)

. Music Night (planned for September 2007)

In order for the first 2 events to be successful they will require good attendance from members in Scouts, Explorers and Network sections. Thelatter 2 events will require careful planning in order to be successful and will only be successful with your support.

The Summer Ball will be a formal event with dinner and live music. The perfect opportunity to get together with a group of your friends on a warm mid-summers evening in a beautiful Thames side location.

As part of this event we also want to hold either a good quality raffle, auction of donated items, or preferably an auction of promises. In order for an auction of promises to be successful we need as many people as possible to make a promise to us that they will supply specific goods or services to a successful bidder. The earlier that we start to collect these promises, the sooner we will be able to identify whether this could be a success for us. So if you are a beautician, hair stylist, chef, car mechanic, etc and have a product or service that you are willing to donate in support of Slough Scouts, or indeed if your employer is willing to make a donation, please contact us via the link on this page.

The music night will an informal event with a couple of live bands, bar and BBQ. A similar event a few years ago was a great evening and raised £800, so

this has the potential to be a good event on its own.

These activities are ambitious, but the objective is to surpass the fundraising target by holding a few key events that deliver a high return,

as well as providing great entertainment.

I really hope that you can see the value that Slough District Scouts deliver and are able to give us the support that we need in order to make this next

12 months a success, thus ensuring that scouting in Slough is financially secure.
